Iyengar  Yoga

by Iyengar Yoga Singapore

Iyengar yoga is one of the more traditional types of yoga. It is named after its founder BKS Iyengar, (1918 – 2014).

The Iyengar method focuses on alignment, sequencing, and timing of the asanas (yoga posture or pose) are some of the main characteristics that define the Iyengar system.

“It is while practising yoga asanas that you learn the art of adjustment.” Mr Iyengar

The use of props such as a bolster, chair, blocks and straps in the Iyengar method helps students to hold poses slightly longer (than without props) to achieve a deeper stretch, be more accessible and precise. Using props allow people of all ages and with different body condition to practice yoga.

The pace is neither too fast or too slow allowing you to absorb and understand what you are doing, rather than simply following along.
