Bullying can be a big deal for kids, and an OECD study in 2015 revealed that Singapore had the 3rd highest rate of bullying amongst 15-year-olds globally (Source: The Straits Times). The OECD report recommended that schools create a safe environment that doesn't condone bullying and that teachers are equipped to handle bullying incidents and to engage with parents.
However, with cyberbullying on the rise, parents can also take pre-emptive actions to buffer their children against the negative effects of bullying.
In October's #ExpertChat, we have the pleasure of inviting Marc Van Huizen, co-founder of the Courageous Chimp, to explore various proactive steps that concerned parents can take to build their children's inner strengths to deal with bullying.
Marc is driven by a passion to help individuals lead fulfilling lives. He does so by translating psychological research into practical tips that facilitate holistic living.
He began his career honing his leadership & interpersonal skills in the Singapore Navy as a SAF Merit Scholarship recipient. After his stint in the military, he went into HR Strategy Consulting, working with clients to solve their employee engagement & retention challenges. His credentials include:
- MSc in Organisational Psychology (Distinction), University of Sheffield, UK
- BSc in Psychology (First Class), University of Warwick, UK
- Positive Psychology at Work, University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) College of Liberal & Professional Studies, US
